El Manuel Wins First Start for LRF!

El Manuel won BY A NOSE in today’s seventh race at Oak Tree at Santa Anita. The race unfolded as expected with even money favorite Kapalua Bay getting an easy lead. What wasn’t expected was the slow fractions of 22.2 and 44.2.? El Manuel and jockey Michael Baze sat very comfortably in third for most of the race. When the field crossed the main track, Baze asked El Manuel and, just as he started his charge, he was bumped and lost a little momentum.? As good horses do, he continued his run, and with about a sixteenth of a mile to go, he was right up with Kapalua Bay. The two horses battled furiously for the final 500 yards with “Manny” getting his nose down just as they crossed the wire. He earned $30,000 for the effort.
