Pete Miller
California

Pete didn’t start out wanting to be a trainer. Instead, he wanted to be a jockey! At age 10 he spent a year at jockey school. When doctors told his family he would grow too big, Miller then decided to become a trainer.
After graduating from high school, Pete went to work for the late Charlie Whittingham and rubbed horses. During his tenure, Miller worked with such horses as major stakes winners Greinton and Palace Music, better known as the sire of two-time Horse of the Year Cigar. Miller went on to mentor with trainers Mike Mitchell and Don Warren.
Pete passed his trainer’s test almost 20 years ago and saddled his first winner Dynashield, on April 25, 1988, at Santa Anita with Gary Stevens in the irons.
Last summer (2007) Miller found the Polytrack surface at Del Mar to his liking as he found the winners circle seven times in the first two weeks – topping the standings. His biggest win though came later in the meet when Set Play, a $105,000 purchase from the OBS March Sale, gave him his first Grade I victory in the Del Mar Debutante.
Pete is based at San Luis Rey Downs near Del Mar.
