Mike Puype
California

Mike began working odd jobs on the backstretch at Turf Paradise just after high school. An Arizona native, Mike started training in 1986 at Turf Paradise. He moved to California and became assistant trainer for Walter Greenman. It was during that time he met Gary Biszantz, for whom he trained exclusively for until 2002.
In 1998, Mike’s stable earned over $1 million. In addition to Old Trieste, Pupye upset Silver Charm in the 1997 Malibu Stakes with Lord Grillo, won the 1996 Hollywood Turf Cup with Running Flame for his first grade I win, and the 1995 Carleton F. Burke Memorial Handicap with Varavadour. Puype’s richest victory came in the $500,000 Swaps Stakes in 1998, in which Old Trieste won by 12 lengths.
Mike is currently stabled at Hollywood Park and has over 30 horses. He’s known as a terrific horseman and one of the hardest workers in the business.
